Hawke Frontier ED X Gen 2 10x34 Binoculars Green Summary
The Hawke Frontier ED X Gen 2 10x34 binoculars combine higher 10x magnification with a compact 34mm objective lens, making them well suited to wildlife, birdwatching and observing more distant subjects. Despite the increased magnification, they weigh just 525g, making them easier to carry than many full-size binoculars.
The Gen 2 model sits above Hawke’s Endurance range and below the larger 42mm Frontier ED X models, offering additional reach in a lightweight design for users who regularly observe across open landscapes, wetlands or coastlines.
Extra-low Dispersion glass, lanthanum ocular elements and dielectric-coated BAK-4 roof prisms combine with fully multi-coated optics to produce bright, sharp images with accurate colour. Waterproof, fogproof construction and a magnesium alloy chassis are complemented by an integrated tripod thread for prolonged observation.
Overview and Key Improvements
The Frontier ED X Gen 2 continues Hawke’s premium binocular range with a refined optical system and durable magnesium alloy construction. ED glass, lanthanum ocular elements, dielectric-coated BAK-4 roof prisms and fully multi-coated optics work together to maximise light transmission, contrast and colour fidelity. Replaceable twist-up eyecups and water-repellent objective coatings improve long-term usability in the field, particularly for observers who wear glasses or spend extended periods watching in variable weather.

Optical system
The Frontier ED X Gen 2 8x34 combines Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass, lanthanum ocular elements, dielectric-coated, phase-corrected BAK-4 roof prisms and a fully multi-coated optical system to maximise light transmission while maintaining sharp detail and natural colour. The wide-angle optics provide a broad field of view, making it easier to locate and follow birds or wildlife across open landscapes.
Built for the field
A magnesium alloy chassis keeps weight down to 525g while providing a durable housing for regular outdoor use. Nitrogen-purged, waterproof and fogproof construction helps maintain reliable performance in changing weather, while water-repellent coatings on the objective lenses encourage rain and moisture to bead away from the optical surfaces. A built-in 1/4”-20 tripod mounting thread is also provided for longer observation sessions.
Comfortable handling
Replaceable twist-up eyecups allow the binoculars to be adjusted for comfortable viewing with or without glasses, making them suitable for extended periods in the field. The compact 8x34 configuration offers a good balance between portability and a naturally stable image, whether you’re birdwatching from a hide, scanning woodland or exploring coastal paths.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these binoculars suitable for glasses wearers?
Yes. The replaceable twist-up eyecups can be adjusted to provide comfortable viewing with or without glasses, helping you maintain the full field of view.
Can these binoculars be mounted on a tripod?
Yes. A built-in 1/4”-20 tripod thread is provided, making it easy to attach the binoculars to a compatible tripod adapter for extended observation sessions.
Why choose the 10x34 model over an 8x34 or larger 10x42 binocular?
The 10x34 model provides greater magnification than an 8x34, making it easier to study more distant wildlife and landscape features. Compared with a 10x42, it offers a more compact, lightweight design that is easier to carry, while the larger model gathers more light in lower-light conditions.
Are these binoculars fully waterproof?
Yes. They are waterproof and nitrogen-purged to help prevent internal fogging, making them suitable for use in changing outdoor weather conditions.
How do these compare with Hawke’s Endurance range?
The Frontier ED X Gen 2 sits above the Endurance range, combining ED glass, lanthanum ocular elements and dielectric-coated prisms to deliver brighter, sharper images with accurate colour, alongside a lightweight magnesium alloy chassis.
Are these binoculars good for birdwatching?
Yes. The 10x magnification helps reveal more distant detail, making these binoculars well suited to birdwatching in open habitats such as wetlands, estuaries and coastal locations, while the 525g weight remains comfortable for extended use.
