Summary

Extremely fine grain and high resolving power make this black and white camera film particularly well suited to detailed scans and larger prints. Sensitivity extends to 780nm providing distinctive opportunities with infrared and coloured filters. Yellow, orange and green filters can also be used to alter tonal relationships and contrast in monochrome images.

The slow ISO 50 rating has another creative advantage, allowing wider apertures to be used in bright conditions without reaching for an ND filter as readily. Landscapes, architecture, city scenes and travel are natural subjects, although the combination of fine detail and aperture flexibility also lends itself to more considered portraiture. Manufactured in Germany, the 36-exposure roll can be processed with conventional black-and-white developers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use it with any 35mm model?

Yes. It uses a standard 135 cartridge, so it can be loaded into compatible 35mm equipment from other manufacturers as well as M-System bodies. You are not restricted to a particular brand or mount.

Where is it made?

It is manufactured in Germany and supplied as a 36-exposure roll.

Can my usual lab process it?

Yes. It can be developed using conventional black-and-white chemistry, so specialist processing is not required. Check with your chosen lab if you are unsure which services they offer.

Why would I choose ISO 50?

The low sensitivity favours very fine detail and also allows slower shutter speeds or wider apertures in bright conditions. The trade-off is that less available light can make handheld shooting more demanding.

Can I use coloured or infrared filters?

Yes. Extended sensitivity makes it particularly interesting for filtration. Yellow, orange and green options can alter tonal relationships and contrast, while sensitivity extending to 780nm also enables creative near-infrared effects.

Is it suitable for large prints and high-resolution scans?

Yes. The combination of extremely fine grain and high resolving power is particularly well suited to detailed scanning and enlargement, provided that exposure, processing and digitisation are handled carefully.
