Product Summary

Created in collaboration with photographer Garrett King, aka Shortstache. This signature PolarPro 82mm Shortstache Everyday Mist Light PL Filter brings two effects together for his distinctive aesthetic. The circular polariser controls reflections and glare. It also improves clarity and contrast. Meanwhile, 1/4-strength Black Mist diffusion gently blooms highlights. It softens the clinical appearance associated with highly corrected digital capture.

The subtle diffusion strength is intended for regular use rather than an overt special effect. This makes it suitable for portraits, street photography, travel and everyday shooting. Chroma glass is engineered to maintain colour accuracy. A 16-layer coating helps resist reflections, scratches and fingerprints. The aluminium frame is finished in Shortstache's signature matte green.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave it attached all day?

Yes, the lighter 1/4-strength diffusion is subtle enough for regular use. Polarisation changes with your position relative to the light, however, so the rotating ring may still need adjustment as conditions and compositions change.

Will it reduce image sharpness?

Diffusion gently reduces fine contrast and spreads light around highlights rather than simply blurring the image. The restrained effect can soften skin texture and give portraits a more flattering appearance while retaining plenty of detail.

Can I use it for both photography and video?

Yes. The combined effects work with stills and moving images, whether you want to control reflections outdoors, soften highlights around practical lighting or introduce a less clinical character straight from the camera.

How does it differ from the stronger Mist/PL version?

This version uses 1/4-strength Black Mist for restrained diffusion suited to frequent use, whereas the 1/2-strength alternative produces more pronounced halation and a noticeably more stylised result.

Can I use it with a stepping ring?

Yes. A suitable step-up ring allows the same accessory to be fitted to equipment with a smaller front thread, which can be a convenient way to share one size across several setups. Step-down rings are more likely to introduce vignetting.

Will I lose any light?

Yes. Polarisation reduces the amount of light reaching the sensor, so exposure may need to be compensated with shutter speed, aperture or ISO. The precise effect varies with rotational position and the scene.
