Tascam Professional 2 Track Field Recorder Summary

The FR-AV2 is a compact 2-channel field recorder for video production, interviews and location sound. It records stereo audio directly to microSD media, with support for professional file formats and metadata.

It sits within Tascam’s field recorder range as a lightweight option that retains 32-bit float recording and full timecode support. Dual A/D converters provide a dynamic range of up to 132 dB, allowing recordings to be adjusted in post without clipping.

Two XLR/TRS combo inputs with Ultra HDDA preamps support microphones and line-level sources, including phantom-powered models. A 3.5mm input allows connection to cameras or wireless receivers. This suits single-subject interviews, mobile rigs and compact video setups where reliable audio synchronisation and clean capture are required.

Tascam Professional 2 Track Field Recorder In More Detail

32-bit float recording

Dual A/D converters support 32-bit float capture at up to 192kHz, maintaining detail across a wide dynamic range. This allows levels to be adjusted after recording and reduces the need for precise gain setup during capture.

XLR and line inputs

Two balanced XLR/TRS combo inputs support microphones and line-level sources. Ultra HDDA preamps provide low-noise performance with an equivalent input noise of -127 dBu. Phantom power at 24V or 48V can be applied per input.

Auxiliary input

A 3.5mm stereo input supports additional sources such as camera audio feeds, wireless receivers or plug-in powered microphones. Plug-in power at 2.5V or 5V is available when required.

Timecode support

Timecode can be received and transmitted via the 3.5mm input and output. The recorder supports jam sync and external timecode devices, allowing alignment with cameras and other recorders during post-production.

Bluetooth monitoring

With the optional AK-BT2 adapter, audio can be monitored wirelessly. Wired and Bluetooth monitoring can be used simultaneously with separate volume control.

USB audio interface

The recorder operates as a 2-in/2-out USB-C audio interface with support for 24-bit and 32-bit float audio. It connects to computers, tablets and smartphones for recording and streaming workflows.

Compact field design

The unit uses a compact enclosure with a 2-inch colour display and physical controls for recording and monitoring. It mounts easily to camera rigs and supports portable operation using three AA batteries or USB power.
